Sleeve Gastrectomy Surgery in Costa Rica

Sleeve Gastrectomy Surgery consists in performing a subtotal resection of the stomach or a subtotal gastrectomy, starting the dissection at about 5-8 cm. from the pylorus (connection between the duodenum and stomach) to the His angle (left angle between the esophagus and stomach); with this the stomach is reduced to a capacity of about 60-80 cm3.

Initially this procedure was done as the first step before doing a Duodenal Switch, but due to the successful weight loss the second step was not performed.

Therefore, we use this procedure for patients with specific indication, either as a one step surgery or as a two-step surgery for super obese patients.
